Seller Comments: Beautiful S-Class 120" stretch in need of some rear suspension work. To explain the issue fully: the S550 has a self-leveling rear suspension incorporating airbags and Bilstein struts. The coachbuilder determined that the airbags were not adequate for the extra weight of a stretched car, so they replaced them with conventional coil springs. This put an extra load on the strut part of the system, and when those wore out it could no longer self-level. It sags when carrying a load of passengers and there is an error message about ride height. The electronics of the brake and suspension systems are also intertwined, so there is also an ABS failure message as well. The brakes are perfectly fine, but the ABS message means it will not pass a DOT inspection as-is. It runs and drives fine and the ride height is normal when unloaded, but we were advised that if the suspension gets worse, the car could go into limp mode. We were originally quoted between $12-15,000 for the repair, but some interested parties have checked with their local shops and received estimates higher than that. Other than that, it's a beautiful, low mileage limo that was nearly $150,000 new, priced to reflect cost of needed repairs. *SALE PENDING*
